Stephen has tried to verdict a wide range of tort cases including automobile and trucking accidents, slip and falls, road and building construction, products liability and many types of workplace injuries. He has developed a particular expertise in the areas of construction liability, public sector liability and insurance coverage disputes arising out of CGL and personal lines policies.
In the public sector defense area, he represents police and fire departments and school districts throughout Illinois in the areas of alleged constitutional violations, including Section 1983 liability such as excessive force, high speed pursuits, class actions involving bond procedures, First Amendment violations, substantive and procedural due process claims and employment liability. In the insurance coverage area, Stephen has litigated at the trial and appellate level a wide range of coverage disputes arising out of both personal lines and commercial or CGL policies. He has consulted with insurers, self-insureds and third-party administrators in the areas of claims handling, policy interpretation, risk management and contract drafting.
Stephen has over 25 years' experience in complex federal and state litigation.
